Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I took a blood and urine test last month, and the results concerned me. I found out that there are abnormalities in some of those counts. Some of the counts were significantly higher than they should have been. Please take a look and let me know what you think. Is this a sign that something is wrong with me? Should I consult a specialist? Or do you think it is simply normal?
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
I have reviewed the reports (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). Most reports are satisfactory, and figures in bold or slightly out of range are acceptable.
My most notable finding was a highly elevated ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) and bilirubin level. Do you have any symptoms such as fever, weight loss, pain or swelling anywhere on your body, white discharge, menstrual irregularities, and so on? It depends on your symptoms of tuberculosis or an autoimmune disease (a condition where the body's immune system attacks healthy tissues, organs, or cells), like vasculitis (inflammation of the blood vessels), causing this much ESR.
If you are completely asymptomatic, you should have it repeated because there is a chance of a false report. Please let me know if you have any symptoms so we can evaluate them. In addition, your bilirubin level is high, indicating jaundice. It is also possible that you had a viral infection of the liver that caused both of these abnormalities. So, before drawing any conclusions, it is best to repeat the tests now, as they are two months old. In addition, a viral marker test should be performed, including HBsAg (Hepatitis B surface antigen) and anti-HCV (antibody to hepatitis C virus).
I hope that you get your answer.
Please let me know if you need any help.
Thank you.
