Is it fine to get married to a person with same blood group?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am getting married in six months. My fiancé is my dad's sister's son. Our blood groups are the same: B+. Will there be any problem with the baby? If yes, then what is the solution? Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

The blood group will not be a problem, but there are chances of high consanguinity. Consanguineous marriages are associated with an increased risk for congenital malformations and autosomal recessive diseases, with some resultant increased postnatal mortality in the offspring of first-cousin couples.

I hope this helps.

Kindly revert so I can assist you further.

Thank you.
