Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have two boils that have popped up on my inner thigh. I had it a couple of times a year, but I have not had them in a while. It has been about six months since I have had one. I usually take a 14 day course of tablet Bactrim 800 mg to clear it up. Currently, I am taking tablet Metformin, Insulin, and tablet Vyvanse. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

A boil is a painful, pus-filled lesion or bumps on the skin. Since you mentioned you have a recurring boil appearance and a history of diabetes is also present, this would be a probable reason for frequent boil eruption. I hope your diabetes is well under control with appropriate medicine and insulin. Usually, the boil can be managed at home. It is not advised to squeeze or pop the boil when it is raw; instead, I suggest you a warm compress with a clean moist cloth should be applied regularly to help boil drain on its own. I suggest you take tablet Paracetamol pain reliever to lessen the pain. If needed, a pus sample can be sent for culture to determine the antibiotic that would be most effective. If tablet Bactrim DS 800 mg (Sulfamethoxazole 800 mg and Trimethoprim 160 mg) antibiotic works for you, I suggest you can take it to clear it away, but since you mention you get boils a couple of times a year, I would suggest you to send a sample of the pus to a lab to know antibiotic sensitivity of the pathogen causing the boils to treat it effectively.

I hope this helps.
