Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 40 years old. Yesterday I went for an MRI, and they found a brain aneurysm of 3 mm. MRT was investigating the worsening of migraine symptoms, which they have told me are unrelated. Last year I went to the same place for an MRT again to explore the migraine symptoms, and nothing was seen. However, on reflection of last year's images, the doctor told me it was also there last year and had been missed because it is right at the back of the pictures (whatever that means). It remains at 3 mm, so it has not changed in a year. I am afraid. I am a mother of two young kids, and this is making me go a bit crazy. I have an appointment next week with a neuroradiologist, but I want to know in the meantime what the status are. I do not smoke, and my blood pressure is relatively low.

Hello, Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern and would explain that this is a small aneurysm, probably since birth. Maybe it was not seen in the previous MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), but this does not mean that it was not there. Anyway, this is a small aneurysm, and the lifetime risk of rupture is low if present in the anterior part of the brain (not posterior circulation). I recommend follow-up with brain MRI every year and control your blood pressure values. I hope you will find this answer helpful. I remain at your disposal for any further questions whenever you need it.

Kind regards.
