Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have a breakthrough bleeding. I have been on a birth control pill for four years. I had sex about a week ago. I just moved to London, so I had to change the time I took the pill. Also, I have been stressed lately due to the relocation. After having sex, I bled (which is a normal occurrence for me), but I continued to have light spotting the next couple of days. It stopped for a few days, and it started again today. It seems like I am on my period. I am not supposed to get my period till next week, and I usually get my period on time. Is this normal? Should I be concerned or get a pregnancy test?
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Bleeding after sex is not usually considered normal except in those who experience rupture of the hymen.
Although stress and time zone change can cause these symptoms, you should see a gynecologist if this keeps repeating, especially the bleeding after sex. This symptom is common in cervical cancer, and it does not have to be 100 % related to it as other conditions can also cause this.
Get an appointment with a gynecologist in person. She will examine you and suggest an ultrasound of the lower abdomen to get more detailed information about the reproductive system. So this will help to understand the underlying cause for your symptoms, and depending on that, she will suggest further treatment.
Hope this helps.
Feel free to contact me for any further queries in the future.
