Can ECG detect a pulmonary disease in a cardiac patient?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My aunt has a cardiac problem, and I took her to the emergency room (ER) last week because she was having breathing difficulties. The doctor suggested an electrocardiogram (ECG) and a few tests. However, the doctor later told her that she had some pulmonary disease and she needed to take treatment for the same. Can pulmonary disease be detected on an ECG? Is the diagnosis correct? What is the best medicine for a cardiac patient with pulmonary disease? Can cardiac problems give her breathing issues? Kindly help me.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com. Thank you for contacting us. This is strange. To diagnose pulmonary disease, you must get a chest X-ray, CT (computed tomography) thorax, and pulmonary function test. It will be of great help if you can send me pictures of her ECG (electrocardiogram). I will be happy to help you further. I wish good health to your aunt. Take care.
