How to manage the risk of cancer phobia?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a cancer phobia. Please help me.

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your situation.

I need details about your symptoms of phobia, duration, frequency, severity, and associated factors.

  • Try to follow the lifestyle below to deal with it.
  • Do exercises daily for 30 to 45 minutes, like as going for a walk.
  • Do meditation for 20 minutes daily. Just sit in one place in a comfortable position and try to concentrate on your normal breathing. Do not stop or force yourself to control your thoughts. Just let it be. It will help you to relax.
  • Eat healthy home-cooked foods, and avoid junk foods.
  • Drink enough water.
  • Spend quality time with friends and family daily, or do video calls if you live away from your family.
  • Spend time on creative hobbies like reading good books, writing journals, painting, drawing, learning new skills or language or musical instruments.
  • Get enough seven to eight hours of sleep daily.
  • Avoid tobacco or alcohol, or any substance abuse.
  • You should start taking the tablet Escitalopram 10 mg for your phobia. You can take the tablet Clonazepam, mouth dissolving 0.25 mg when you have acute anxiety or restlessness.

I hope this information is helpful to you.

Thanks.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I used to eat betel nut, and now I read the article that says it causes cancer. Now I am worried and checked my CBC and CRP. All reports are normal. What should I do? Please reply.

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

It will not harm you if you stop chewing betel nut now. It will cause trouble if you chew for more than 15 to 20 years with heavy use. Otherwise, it will not cause any problem. Just stop chewing betel nut. You will not have cancer.

I hope this information is helpful to you.

Thanks.
