Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have canker sores. What are canker sores? How to get rid of them?

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query

I understand your concern.

A canker sore is a small, shallow sore inside the mouth or at the base of the gums. Causes are systemic imbalance and gastric problems like peptic ulcer. Habits like smoking, alcohol consumption, etc. Mental stress and depression also cause sores. Sometimes it is due to eating habits like hot food or drinks that can cause sores. It can be due to injury from dental equipment that is happened when a dentist mistakenly touches any hot instrument in the mouth. Treatment of such sores is different according to the nature of the sore they are:

  1. They can be treated with mouth gel like Mucopain (Benzocaine 20 percent w/w)mouth ulcer gel, maintaining oral hygiene properly, and using mouthwash after brushing twice a day.
  2. Avoiding spicy foods and hot foods and drinks.
  3. If a tooth is sharp and causing such soreness then it has a different treatment.
  4. Removing mental stress, by seeing a psychiatrist to handle depression.
  5. Treating or controlling gastric imbalance.
  6. Quitting smoking, alcohol consumption, etc.

I hope this has helped you.

Thank you.
