Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have these sores that appear in my mouth (inside my lips, my tongue, my cheeks, etc.). They started appearing five years back. They come and go. There is a week's gap between two erupting sores.

Please advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. From your complaint, this looks a lot more like recurrent aphthous stomatitis (multiple canker sores). There is no specific treatment for it. They will be mostly treated with pain relief gel, antiseptic mouthwashes, diet supplements, and lifestyle modifications.

However, it would be treated with appropriate antibiotics and antiviral drugs if it was due to bacterial or viral infection. Do you have any known allergies? Do you have a familial history of similar conditions? Are you under any long-term medications? Do you take any oral contraceptive pills? Do you have any history of surgeries, dental treatment, or hospitalization?

A detailed history, along with the clinical examination and complete blood report, will help diagnose and to treat the cause. A clear clinical picture of the ulcer or bump will be required to determine what it is and what caused it. In the meanwhile,

1. Avoid hot and spicy foods

2. Do warm saline mouth rinses thrice daily.

3. Rinse mouth after every meal

4. Drink lots of water and keep yourself hydrated at all times.

Visit your dentist and get a complete evaluation done to rule out any viral infection.

I hope this clears your concern.
