Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have a swelling on my upper lid, which seems like a chalazion. I had it a year ago, too. It looks like the same thing. I am applying a warm water compress.
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Chalazion is a lump in the upper or lower eyelid caused by the obstruction and inflammation of an oil gland of the eyelid. It is not a tumor and does not cause permanent changes in vision. Chalazion goes away without the necessity of surgery.
Erythromycin ointment should be applied locally four times daily for 20 days. Tablet Azithromycin 500 mg should be taken once daily for 5 days. Tablet Lansoprazole 30 mg should be taken once daily for 10 days. Tablet Etoricoxib 120 mg should be taken once daily for 5 days. A hot compress should be applied every 8 hours.
The probable cause is chalazion due to obstruction and inflammation of an oil gland of the eyelid. Investigations to be done include FBS (fasting blood sugar), PPBS (postprandial blood sugar), and culture of pus, if any.
The differential diagnosis is chalazion. The probable diagnosis is chalazion. Preventive measures include cleaning the chalazion every 8 hours.
I hope this helps you.
Take care
