Can chest pain be due to acid reflux?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been experiencing chest discomfort for about two to three months now. It is not concentrated in one particular area, but right now, I feel it more on the left side. It is a dull, achy pain that does not really go away. I have also noticed swelling in my lymph nodes for about a week. I am not sure if this is related to the chest discomfort, as I have had that for months.

Please suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Your chest pain seems to be muscular in nature. Another possibility is acid reflux, which can also cause this type of pain. We should also rule out any cardiac issues in the case of chest pain, so you should get a chest X-ray and ECG (electrocardiogram) done. If both the ECG and chest X-ray are normal, the pain is likely muscular or due to acid reflux. For muscular pain, I recommend doing hot fomentation on the affected area three to four times a day. You can also apply Diclofenac gel locally to the area. With this treatment, the pain usually resolves in five to seven days. If you experience abdominal pain or acid reflux, I would advise you to take a combination of Pantoprazole and Domperidone.

Thanks and regards.
