Why do I still have Angina after a clear Angiogram?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been experiencing angina symptoms for the past five months. I had an angiogram, which came back clear, but I am still experiencing chest and back pain along with pain, coldness, and sweating in my extremities. I have ruled out gastrointestinal issues as well as carpal tunnel syndrome with the help of a neurologist. I have been in and out of the emergency room many times due to chest pain that is triggered by exertion.

Although they keep telling me that I do not have ischemic heart disease, my ECG shows signs of ischemia. When I am in stressful situations or engage in physical exertion, I experience pain in the upper left side of my chest, which radiates to my shoulder blades, along with numbness in my hands and feet, and sometimes pain in my left bicep. I have been dealing with these symptoms almost daily.

I take a beta blocker twice a day, Aspirin in the morning, and Pantoloc for gastrointestinal issues. Despite the clear angiogram, which they consider the gold standard, I was told there is nothing to be concerned about. They prescribed me anxiety medication and sent me home. I am feeling frustrated and scared. Over the past two weeks, I have had several near-syncope episodes during exertion.

I am frustrated and in need of help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have reviewed all of your ECG reports (attachment removed to protect patient identity). These reports appear to be near normal. If your angiogram results are normal, there is no need for concern. It is important to ensure adequate control of your blood pressure. You should also consider ruling out any issues related to your shoulder or nerves. Please make sure to engage in regular exercise, and short-term painkillers can be taken if needed.

Thanks and regards.
