Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have chipped off a small piece of my front teeth. Can it be repaired? Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query. Yes, you have chipped off a small piece of your front tooth. It is called Ellis class 1 fracture of the tooth. The tooth has got multiple layers and based on the extent of the fracture, it is classified. You can throw away the chipped portion as it cannot be refined. There is no such technology that can do it. The treating doctor will check for any tooth sensitivity or pain in a particular and adjacent tooth. A small radiograph will be taken to assess any internal damage that could have occurred. Once these are clear and no issues are found, the doctor will do a composite material build-up on the tooth, which will be selected by matching the shade of the tooth. They will show you multiple shades, which you can keep next to your teeth and see if they match, and the one you select will be placed on the chipped area and fixed there. The tooth's shape will be done and look similar to your existing teeth with matched shade. I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
