What causes hives in the back, shoulders, arms, and legs, along with an itching sensation all over the body?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My husband has been allergic to something really bad for the last month. He has been to ER twice a week apart. He has hives on his back, shoulders, arms, and legs. He also has an itching sensation all over his body. His tongue has swollen up twice. All they have done is giving him steroids. I have changed our bath soap and laundry detergent, all suitable for sensitive skin. I also had our apartment checked for mold and mildew. Do not know what else to do. Can you please help me?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understand your concern.

According to your description, your husband suffers from acute exacerbations of urticaria with angioedema. I would advise you to check if he is allergic to anything in his daily routine. Also, check if he has any dental caries, burning sensations during voiding, and burning sensations in the stomach. Though Prednisone is a better medication in that instance, he also has to keep a check on anything particular he is allergic to. I suggest checking total IgE levels and absolute eosinophilic count for further details. Kindly share some images next time whenever he gets such a lesion.

Thank you.
