Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
What are the side effects of Omnacortil and Wysolone tablets?
I have been taking both of them (10 mg) regularly for the last year for redness in the eye, and now I am having obesity problems. I feel that I should avoid it and need an alternative without having any side effects.
Please suggest.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concern.
As you said, you are having eye allergy. You were prescribed steroid tablets, Omnacortil (Prednisolone) or Wysolone (Prednisolone). However, it is not good to take steroids for a longer duration. But if it is required, as in your case, you must follow your doctor's advice. As you said that you are becoming overweight because of steroids, your doctor can help you with this by reducing the dose.
The common side effects of steroids include:
1. Elevated pressure in the eyes (glaucoma).
2. Fluid retention, causing swelling in your lower legs.
3. Increased blood pressure.
4. Mood swings.
5. Weight gain with fat deposits in your abdomen, face, and the back of your neck.
6. Cataract in eyes.
7. High blood sugar, which can trigger or worsen diabetes.
8. Increased risk of infections and delayed wound healing.
9. Thinning bones (osteoporosis) and fractures.
10. Suppressed adrenal gland hormone production.
11. Thin skin, easy bruising, and slower wound healing.
12. Fungal infection in the mouth (oral thrush).
13. Hoarseness in voice.
I suggest consulting your doctor and discussing the side effects.
I hope that you get your answer.
Please let me know if you need any help.
Thank you.
