Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have colds almost throughout the year, mostly in the cold season. Every time I see the doctor, he says it is a seasonal change. He prescribed me Cetirizine medications. After some time, I again developed a cold and cough. I usually wake up in the morning with a cold, sneeze, and headache.

Kindly help.

Hi,

I am glad you chose icliniq for your medical-related queries.

I understand your concern and will try to help you with it.

Most of the common cold is due to allergic inflammation, and a cold environment can itself be a triggering factor. Cetrizine, being an antiallergic, is thus prescribed. Apart from a cold environment, there could be other allergen like dust, smoke, and pollen, which is triggering your symptoms. You can undergo allergy testing to find the allergen and thus avoid it and prevent cold symptoms. Recurrent cold can also be due to deviated nasal septum, chronic sinusitis etc., which needs examination by an ENT (eye, nose, and throat specialist) specialist to confirm it. You should avoid direct contact with cool air and cover your nose and mouth if you ride a bike. I suggest you take vitamin C tablets and exercise daily to improve immunity.

Thank you for consulting me.
