Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My daughter is 11 months old and has fever, cold, and cough since yesterday night after getting exposed to chilling weather. Please guide me with a prompt response, I have lot many queries.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com

I read your query and understand your concern.

For fever:

If the temperature is 100 F or more, you can give drops of Crocin (100 mg/ml) (dose as per the weight of the child) as needed for four to six hours.

If the temperature is 102 F or more, you can give syrup. Ibugesic Plus (Paracetamol and Ibuprofen) (dose as per the weight of the child) as per need for every six to eight hours. If the temperature stays above 100 F for more than three days or if the temperature crosses 103 F, it is advisable to get evaluated physically by a pediatrician with possible blood investigations based on physical examination.

For Cough and cold:

1. Syrup. Levolin (levosalbutamol) (dose as per the weight of the child) twice a day for five to seven days.

2. Syrup. Montair LC kid (Montelukast (10mg), Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride 5 mg) (dose as per the weight of the child) twice a day for 10 days.

If any worsening or no improvement, it is best to get the child evaluated physically by a pediatrician. I hope I have cleared all your doubts.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I want to know if it is possible to give a low dose of the drug so that my daughter does not vomit. For example, if someone is taking Allegra and requires 180 mg of the drug, then is it possible to give him a single tablet of 180 mg? Is it necessary to take 120 mg of the drug? Anyway, I will manage the drug-related issue. Please guide me on another issue. My daughter is only 11 months old. But she vomits daily. She is only taking Kheer and Dalia in paste form. She cannot take solid foods. Can you please tell me the exact issue?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com

You have not mentioned weight. Kindly tell me the weight of the child. I will send you the dose. As regards your second query, is your child passing well-formed stools or straining to pass stools (as in hard stools or stools in lumps)?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Yes, she passes hard stools nowadays but not always. She used to vomit with every edible or even when we gave her any medicine, most of the time nauseous mouth expressions used to show, and when we fed her she always tried to vomit. Even after two hours of feeding, we found non-digested milk in her vomit. Her weight is 7.5 approximately at the age of 11.5 months old.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com

The cause of the above is constipation. I suggest you to start with

1. Syrup. Ondem (Ondansetron) 2 ml thrice a day for three days (half an hour before food).

2. Syrup Duphalac (lactulose) (5 ml) twice a day for 10 days along with plenty of water for 10 days.

3. Syrup. Rantac (Ranitidine and Domperidone) 2 ml twice a day (half an hour before food) for one week. Reduce intake of bread and bread products, milk, chocolates, and chips if any, and increase intake of water (atleast 500 to 700 ml) for long-term benefits with regards to constipation. I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I hope no differential diagnosis other than constipation and sir she is just 11 months old. Do you recommend Duphalac if a child passes a hard stool irrespective of the frequency of passing stool? Also, she is 7.5 kg only, and without a feeder, she would not take anything and will try Domstal or Rantac.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com

As per my knowledge, this is constipation. I do not see the need or reason to prescribe Domstal or Rantac more so when a child is passing hard stools. I hope I have cleared all your doubts.

Thank you.
