Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

She has been feeling unwell at noon since yesterday, and the fever started in the evening. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and am sorry for such discomfort. It would probably be a viral illness or common cold, but I would like to know any other history or symptoms associated with fever.

1) Any other symptoms with fever like sneezing or running nose?

2) Any soreness of the throat?

3) What is the temperature reading?

4) Any burning during micturition?

5) Any cough production or breathing difficulty?

I would suggest you follow.

Tablet Paracetamol 250 mg twice a day for fever.

Do cold sponging of the head, arms, and lower limbs if there is increased body temperature.

Avoid cold food or fridge water.

Maintain adequate hydration.

Take adequate rest.

Please reply to the above questions to guide you further and better.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Cold is present with soreness of the throat. The body's temperature has been at 37.5 to 39°F since yesterday. Already been taking Paracetamol since yesterday and doing cold sponging, but the body temperature is still at 38 to 39°F. Does the patient need to take antibiotics for her fever?

Hello,

Welcome bak to icliniq.com.

You have mentioned a history of one day only. You can wait for two more days as it is a viral fever due to the common cold. Antibiotics are not effective in the initial three days of the illness. I would suggest you the following.

Give tablet Paracetamol 250 mg three times a day.

Do warm water gargle three times a day to soothe the soreness of the throat.

Cold water sponging.

Maintain adequate hydration

If an antibiotic is needed early, you can give tablet Augmentin (Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid) 375 mg three times a day for three days.

Please do not give above mentioned antibiotic if there is any history of allergy to the antibiotic.

Giving conservative support through tablet Paracetamol, proper nutrition, adequate hydration, rest, avoiding an AC (air conditioner) or cold water or food, etc., would help her to bring down body temperature. Please mention if there is any allergy history to the antibiotic so that I can guide you to another antibiotic name if needed. Please follow up if you have any further related queries about it.

Thank you.
