Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My girlfriend and I have sex using condoms. After the first round, I put on another condom, but I accidentally wore it incorrectly and flipped it. I am concerned that the other side may have come into contact with sperm, and I am worried she might get pregnant. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query, and I can understand your concern.

If you and your girlfriend consistently use condoms correctly, the risk of pregnancy is low. However, if a condom is accidentally worn incorrectly or flipped over, there is a possibility that some semen could leak out, increasing the risk of pregnancy. To ensure proper condom usage, follow these steps:

  1. Check the expiration date: Verify that the condom has not expired before use.
  2. Put it on correctly: Roll the condom onto the erect penis before any genital contact occurs, leaving space at the tip to collect semen.
  3. Use a new condom for each sexual encounter: Do not reuse condoms, even if they appear intact.
  4. Hold the base of the condom during withdrawal: This helps prevent semen from leaking out.
  5. Dispose of the condom properly: After ejaculation or after 30 minutes of sex (whichever comes first), wrap the used condom in tissue and dispose of it in the trash. Do not flush it down the toilet.

I hope your queries are resolved, and any further queries are welcome.

Thank you.
