Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My baby’s birth weight was 6.61 lbs, and at six weeks, 7.94 lbs. The doctor said she is not gaining weight quickly. She refuses to drink milk from the bottle, only drinks from one breast, sleep for 30 minutes or so, and then wakes up again. How do I get her to drink from the bottle? She was drinking from a bottle for a short time when she was around four weeks old, then I stopped that and just breastfed her.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You have to check her thyroid profile as hypothyroidism leads to poor feeding and loss of weight. If the blood parameters are normal, you must keep feeding her; she will gain weight with time. Never bottle feed and do exclusive breastfeeding till four months, and then you can start giving homemade solid foods in small amounts.

Take care.
