Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My hair does not grow since I was born. I am tired of using artificial hair. Also, people make fun of my artificial hair, which makes me upset. Kindly suggest me a treatment for my hair growth. Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern. There are many causes for hair not to grow since birth, like congenital hypotrichosis, monilethrix, alopecia totalis, etc. Can you please attach a clinical picture to guide you appropriately? Also, please answer the below questions for further diagnosis. Have you visited a dermatologist? Have you got any blood work done? Do you have fewer hairs on the scalp, or are there any bald areas where no hairs grow? Do you have normal body hair? Is there a family history of hair problems? Let me give you some hair care tips. Always use lukewarm water for washing your hair. Never use hot water. Do not comb when the hair is wet. Do not use a hair dryer; allow it to dry naturally after the bath. Avoid hot iron straighteners; it breaks the protein bond in hair, making it brittle. As hair is made up of a protein called keratin, you must take a protein-rich diet daily, like eggs, fish, curd, milk, lentils, and chicken. Do exercise 40 minutes a day, six days a week, to keep the hormonal balance intact. Use a comb that has wide spaces between each tooth, and the tip of the tooth should be blunt. Comb gently. Avoid passive smoking (inhaling cigarette smoke when others are smoking). Nicotine decreases the blood supply to the hair roots, affecting hair growth. Avoid tight ponytails, as it would cause traction on hair, eventually leading to hair fall from the frontal area. Instead, keep the hair loosely tied. I hope this helps. Thank you.
