Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I had constipation four weeks ago. This made me to have big stiff bowel during defecation a thing that caused bruises below my rectum so I currently bleed a fresh blood during egestion with little pain. I have not gone to hospital. You can prescribe a drug. Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Thanks for the query. Some times hard and rough stool rubs with veins that are present in the rectal and anal area. Those are very superficial and as they get ruptured due to hard stool there is a possibility of having fresh blood while defecation. To avoid this please see that stool remains soft. That can be done by taking a good quantity of fresh green leafy vegetables, salads, plenty of fruits like banana and others. By following regular bowel habits, that when one gets an urge to pass, a visit to toilet should be made. Otherwise the stool that comes down in rectum tends to go back and more water is absorbed making it harder. If the problem is persistent then stool softeners like Lactulose liquid or Cremaffin liquid 15 to 20 ml at bed time can be used. This help better evacuation. But best is to develop a regular habit and increase the intake of water, other liquids and green leafy vegetables and fruits. If need be that if there is any irritation in the anal area then Proctosedyl ointment can be applied to relieve irritation. However, if problem persists then better to consult a surgeon. Thank you.
