Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I would like to know the answers to the following questions to quote them in an article.

  1. What is the period between removing an IUD and getting pregnant?
  2. Are there any risks of infertility after having used an IUD?
  3. What is the percentage of women getting pregnant even if they have an IUD?
  4. What are the risks of an IUD in general?
  5. What's the difference between a copper IUD and a regular one?

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

  1. Usually after the removal of the IUD (intrauterine device), there are fair chances of pregnancy after the first period. There is no need to wait for planning a pregnancy. Soon on completing your periods after removal of IUD, you can plan for pregnancy and there are high chances of success rate.
  2. There is no risk of infertility, but it can take nearly three months for the periods to get regularised.
  3. It usually takes three to six months to get positive results for pregnancy, that is because of the hormonal changes.
  4. Only 0.1 percent of women have the risk of pregnancy when an IUD is placed.
  5. Risks of IUD include spotting, irregular periods, amenorrhea or oligomenorrhea, abdominal cramps, and discomfort.
  6. Copper IUD has copper content and releases copper ions, whereas other IUDs have hormones as their content and release hormones but both have similar functions.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
