Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am taking the Yasmin contraceptive pill and get spotting after ten to fifteen days on the active pills. I am not on any other medications. Is there a better or stronger pill that will help me get through all the active pills without bleeding?

Answered by Dr. Monica Mathur

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The Yasmin (Ethinyl Estradiol 0.03 mg and Drospirenone 3 mg) contraceptive is a good oral contraceptive pill that has got a very high success rate in preventing pregnancy. However, as you are bleeding after ten to 15 days, which is not a normal sign during pill usage, I would advise you to get a sonography of your lower abdomen to know if there is any abnormality causing the irregular bleeding. Apart from it, you should also get a pap (papanicolaou test) smear done to know if there is any inflammation over the mouth of the uterus, which will also cause irregular bleeding. You can switch to a higher pill if the above reports are normal. I would suggest you take Novelon (Ethinyl Estradiol 0.03 mg and Desogestrel 0.15 mg) tablets once a day starting from the first day of the cycle. It has the least side effects with a success rate as good as Yasmin.

Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with them and take medicines with their consent.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had all the tests performed, and nothing is wrong. Is it possible that I metabolize the pill quickly, which is not strong enough? So Novelon is stronger than Yasmin? That should prevent mid-cycle bleeding?

Thank you.

Answered by Dr. Monica Mathur

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq com.

Novelon (Ethinyl Estradiol 0.03 mg and Desogestrel 0.15 mg) have given very good results with minimal side effects. I would strongly recommend Novelon, which is different from Yasmin. Yasmin is also good enough, but it is better to switch over as everybody has a different body type.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am not able to find Novelon. Is Marvelon or Madeline the same? Which active ingredient is higher in Novelon that makes it better than Yasmin? I have also seen that some people think Brevinor or Norimin are good. I need something stronger to stop this breakthrough bleeding. Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq com. Yes, you can very well take Marvelon 28 (Ethinyl Estradiol 30 mcg and Desogestrel 150 mcg) oral contraceptive pills. It is available in your region. These pills contain hormonal preparations to prevent pregnancy.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

But I need the best or strongest pill to prevent breakthrough or mid-cycle bleeding. So that is what I am using it for.

Answered by Dr. Monica Mathur

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I think you are having some confusion. Let me clear it out to you.

Yasmin (Ethinyl Estradiol 0.03 mg and Drospirenone 3 mg), which you are taking presently, contains very good but nonhormonal preparation. On the other hand, Marvelon 28 (Ethinyl Estradiol 30 mcg and Desogestrel 150 mcg) contains hormonal preparation, so preventing bleeding is more effective. I hope now it is clear.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
