Patient's Query

Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Emergency contraceptive pills are hormones and have their side effects as well. One of most common is irregular bleeding. Everyone's body responds differently to hormones, but major effects are the same. Have you any bleeding disorder? Have you been treated for any chronic disease or have been using any medications that can have affect menstrual bleeding? Heavy bleeding causes weakness, anemia, dizziness, and even fainting. So, it is better to have your vitals checked (BP, pulse, respiratory rate).
If the pregnancy test is negative and ultrasound normal (no signs of pregnancy), I suggest taking tablet Transamine (Tranexamic acid) 500 mg eight hourly for three to five days to reduce it. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her and start taking the medicines with their consent.
1. Start Iron supplements as heavy blood loss cause weakness.
2. Have a nutritious, healthy diet with low salt, spice, and sugar to cover weaknesses.
3. Have one CBC (complete blood count) to see hemoglobin and platelet count.
4. Try to have a transvaginal scan or per abdominal with the bladder full to exclude pelvic pathology.
If the cycle remains irregular, do a hormonal profile test on day-2 (serum testosterone, serum prolactin, serum insulin, serum LH or FSH, thyroid function test) to be reviewed by your gynecologist.
Thank you.

Hello doctor,
No, I do not have heavy bleeding. And I do not have a bleeding disorder. Does I-pill have any type of side effects?
Please help me.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Yes, it could be hormonal side effects on which body responses or hormonal imbalance that occurs due to the introduction of emergency contraceptive. Everyone has a bit different response. Some would get mild bleeding and some heavy some clots, but everything would be in the form of bleeding.
Thank you.
