Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 26 years old, and I have two sons. After my second son was born, I used a copper IUD (intrauterine device). After two years, I removed it and got pregnant. I aborted the baby one year ago, but I am not getting pregnant again. Please help.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

To get pregnant, there are specific requirements.

1. You must be ovulating.

2. Your fallopian tubes must be open as it is the site where fertilization takes place. You can confirm this using HSG (hysterosalpingography) or a laparoscopy and dye test commonly. For you that has aborted a baby before, you must confirm this as abortion is a risk factor for fallopian tube blockage.

3. Your uterine cavity must be open.

4. Your partner's sperm should be good enough and adequate. Therefore, you would need to do additional investigations to know the reason you are not getting pregnant. Furthermore, you would need to provide different history:

  1. Is your menses regular?
  2. Have you gained or lost excessive weight recently?

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
