Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

He is always getting sick with colds. He also caught the flu last year and was diagnosed with ammonia. He was hospitalized for six days with antibiotics. How can he be treated?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your anxiety.

It would have been helpful if you had mentioned the age of your child. Childhood lung infection is not uncommon. If a recurrent infection is observed, try to search for the source in your neighborhood. Maybe an old carpet or walls of the rooms can be a cause.

Was there any particular infection? Any abnormal investigations?

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

My son is six years old. I keep my home pretty clean. When he goes to school, he comes back with viruses and colds. I am giving him vitamins to try to keep him healthy. He has had a cough for a couple of weeks now with no fever, no running nose. He just has a cough at night. My husband and I went on vacation ten days ago, and since then, he has been coughing. I took him to a doctor, and they did a test for pertussis. I am waiting for the results to come back this week. But I am really tired of him getting sick all the time. What should I do?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I think there is an infection. But, usually accompanied by fever.

Sometimes post-infective hypersensitive airway disease happens and can cause prolonged coughing symptoms in the absence of fever. This usually happens after a trivial, transient airway infection. Other factors can be environmental exposure and allergens. Ear canal blockage by a foreign body can sometimes cause a reflex cough. He might have chronic sinusitis.

From an oncological point of view, mediastinal tumors can also be present. If the cough is persistent for more than three weeks, then I will suggest seeing a pediatrician for a physical examination followed by a chest X-ray and a sputum examination. Since you have the facility of a trained nurse, hence you may take a trial of bronchodilators. In other countries, doctors prescribe antihistamines and antitussives.

Kindly revert if there is any further query.
