What could cause persistent cough despite medicine?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My 1-and-a-half-year-old baby is suffering from a cough. The doctor prescribed Ambolar medicine and nebulization, but no relief today. The baby has a severe cough. What treatment do I give?

Answered by Dr. Simy Mathew

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

There is no medicine to suppress cough. All the nebulizers and medications you give help to bring out the mucus from the lungs, which is required so that there will not be any congestion inside the lungs and the child can breathe well. Also, after starting the nebulizer, the cough will increase for two days. It is to bring out mucus. So do not worry. It will subside slowly. Keep giving nebulization. Also, give steam to your child.
