Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
My mother is having headaches, throat pain, and runny nose. She has no fever. Should we get her tested for the Coronavirus? Also, what medications we can give at this point?
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Thanks for your query.
With the symptoms that you have mentioned and with the pandemic around, it would be an excellent decision to test her for COVID-19 using RT-PCR (reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction)-based antigen test from the oral and nasopharyngeal swab samples.
Considering her age, she should also get the following other tests:
1. X-ray chest or CT (computed tomography) scan of the chest (preferable).
2. Blood test- CBC (complete blood count), ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate), CRP (C-reactive protein), serum LDH (lactate dehydrogenase), Serum ferritin, D-dimer (if available), liver function tests like AST (aspartate aminotransferase), ALT (alanine aminotransferase), renal function tests like serum creatinine, eGFR (estimated glomerular filtration rate), serum electrolytes, and uric acid, then HbA1C (glycated hemoglobin test), APTT (activated partial thromboplastin time), and PT (prothrombin time).
3. ECG (electrocardiogram) 12- lead.
The above tests indicate the severity of the disease's systemic effects and a glimpse of the vital body functions' current status.
Also, the below-given supplements are recommended.
You may choose the brand that you may prefer.
Additionally, your mother is on Carbimazole from your submission (attachment removed to protect patient identity), a medicine meant for hyperthyroidism (that is, abnormally increased thyroid activity and thyroid hormone secretion). Kindly share all her medical reports, including those of the above condition. Additional medicines recommended includes,
