Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have been having cramps. Neither am I close to my periods nor am I ovulating. Yesterday I noticed some reddish-brown discharge and had been experiencing cramps, especially on the sides of the pelvic region. What could be the problem? Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern about the cramps.

First, we need to rule out any possible pregnancy, so if you have been sexually active, unprotected, and if your periods will not come on time, do a pregnancy test. This pain, together with brownish discharge, can be of different causes. It might be a fungal infection, a bacterial infection, or even a sexually transmitted disease, etc. For a better answer, it is necessary to have more information about your sexual history because the reason can be PID (pelvic inflammatory disease), mainly because you have cramps on the sides of the pelvic region. I recommend you to do at least these two procedures,

1. Culture of the vaginal secretions.

2. Pap smear.

Please let me know if you have further questions or even follow up when you do these tests. I hope the answer has been helpful for you. I wish you the best.
