Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
My husband and I have been trying to have kids. He has cryptorchidism. He did some test already they said the undescended testes is better than the descended on and it has a good blood supply.
Is the surgery still possible? He is 25 years old now.
What are our chances of having a baby after the surgery at 25?
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Undescended testes should be corrected in infancy, actually. The mode of correction depends on the type of undescended testes. There could be chances of malignancy and infertility if a correction does not occur in infancy. But the positive point here is that your husband having one side undescended and other side, not undescend but other side having a varicocele (attachment removed to protect patient identity).
It is not clear in research as well how many chances of fertility correction are after correction at the age of 25 years, but there could be intrauterine insemination, other IVF options are always there if just one or two normal sperm could be detected from semen.
Better to consult good fertility advisor or IVF center and surgeon as well for your conception issue but before that have proper investigations and correction of varicocele and undescended testis as well.
You need a multidisciplinary care and approach to find a correct solution, whether he needs urgent surgery or not. Before surgery, you can have IVF, IUI, or after. All these points need investigation and discussion among all the above-mentioned specialists.
I hope this helps you.
Take care.
