Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 4-and-a-half-year-old son is not urinating since last night. At first, he had pain in his penis, but now there was no pain. So I am trying to make him urinate.

Is it something serious? I am so worried.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

You have mentioned he cannot urinate since last night means the total duration is 24 hours by now, which is from last night to today night. Please reply to the below questions to guide you on what it could be and add the detail of any symptoms if present.

  1. Was he active throughout the whole day?
  2. Is there normal water intake from last night till now?
  3. Is there any pain or swelling in the suprapubic area?
  4. Is there any history of fever?

It is worrying if there is no drop of urine in the last 24 hours. You should have visited the local doctor today evening.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

He is active. I think he urinated in the afternoon.

But now I am watching him, and he is normal and active. He drank 500 ml of water today. So I am waiting till morning to see. Also, there has been no swelling or pain till now.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

I think there is less urine production due to poor water intake and cold weather. I sincerely suggest you visit the local pediatrician without delay to assess his urinary function with the relevant test. Do not panic, but do not delay tomorrow.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Today I went to the hospital. They put cathedral and took out his urine, and in an X-ray, the doctor told him he had constipation. After that, they gave him an enema Unison 15 percent solution 20 ml, and he pooped and urinated himself.

Now he again does not pass urine. Can I give him the same 15 percent solution, 20 ml, and one more enema now? Or are we not allowed to give more than one enema?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

I got that he had a constipated bowel in the X-ray, but what is the cause of the decrease in urine production for almost one day? The enema should be given if there is no bowel evacuation or very hard stool or constipation present in the X-ray. You should not use an enema again to make him urinate. Kindly ask your pediatrician to do a workup for the cause of the decreased urine production. I suggest you maintain adequate hydration and not give an enema unless there is no stool evacuation.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

There was a lot of urine when they took it out, and he passed stool after giving an enema. Then, he urinated again and passed a lot of urine. So I do not think he is making less urine.

I feel he is feeling pain when he empties his bladder and as per the doctor, it is due to constipation. Can he feel pain while urinating if he has a lot of constipation? I do not know what to do. Tomorrow we will go for an ultrasound.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

It is good to read that he urinated again. It may be a urinary tract infection if he is feeling pain during micturition.

Since he was micturated properly after catheter insertion and afterward, the kidney is working fine. I do not find any correlation between constipation and difficulty in micturition.

I suggest you do ultrasound, kidney-ureter-bladder X-ray, urine routine examination, and microscopy test tomorrow if possible. After you do the above test, kindly reply with the test result.

Do not worry. Maintain adequate hydration.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
