Can a slight backward positioning of lower jaw be corrected?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have some problems with my dental structure. The one that I feel is a major issue is that my lower jaw sits a little backward from where it should rest. It is resulting in giving me a double chin and making me look awkward. Kindly suggest how this can be corrected.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I need to see a picture to find a complete treatment plan. Some types of cases can be corrected by using braces or orthodontic treatment, but some require a surgical procedure to correct them.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I saw your photos now (attachment removed to protect patient identity). Your chin is deficient and would require surgery to correct it. Kindly see an oral and maxillofacial surgeon to correct it. The only compromised treatment you could do is put braces and correct the alignment of teeth. But, your chin or mandible is deficient. So, now, at your age growth is not possible.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
