Can my girlfriend get pregnant without sexual intercourse but because of the fingering?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I wanted to ask about my girlfriend. Her period is six days late today. We did not have intercourse, but I did insert my fingers in her vagina. We are sure that no pre-cum or sperm passed on my fingers, but is there any chance that sperm can seep through tight underwear and jeans and pass onto my fingers? Could this cause pregnancy in any case? What do you recommend doing at this point?

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through the details presented by you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

What do you think about the issue, then?

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to iclinic.com.

Firstly let me tell you that with the details presented by you, there is no possibility of pregnancy at all. To get pregnant, the sperm must be released inside the vagina of the female. These sperms then need to fertilize an egg which may or may not be available depending on the ovulation pattern of the female. The fertilized egg is then required to be implanted in the uterus of the female. When all this happens successfully, a female is said to be pregnant or having conceived. In your case, since no eggs were released inside the vagina, there is no possibility of pregnancy. At this stage, do not get tense about pregnancy, as there is no pregnancy. Stress among girls is also a reason for the delay in periods, which causes wavering in almost 25 % of females worldwide. Please tell me when was her last period and if she has any irregular periods.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I did not get your explanation on the eggs. Could you explain this further? How would we know if eggs are present in the vagina at a given moment? Also, is it possible for sperm or precum to seep through my boxers and jeans? If by chance, that passed onto my fingers as I inserted my finger inside the vagina. Can that lead to the fertilization of the egg?

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to iclinic.com.

The eggs are generally present near mid-cycle, that is, ovulation, and secondly, sperms can not swim or reach through two layers of clothing.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

My girlfriend's last period was at the regular time, and she does not have a history of irregular periods but usually comes two days late each time. However, this time it got late by around a week, which never happens, so we are tense. She also mentioned that she had been diagnosed with PCOS before. She is also apprehensive and still does not have periods. Should we do an ultrasound test (USG)?

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to iclinic.com.

If you are worried, I recommend that you do a urine pregnancy test at home. This will help her ease of anxiety. Also, most females have irregular periods with a history of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). So do a urine pregnancy test at home as of now.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I discussed this with my girlfriend, who is not entirely clear on the mid-cycle (ovulation period). As I mentioned, her periods usually occur around mid-month (no fixed time) but happen two days late each time. The incident (inserting my finger) occurred last month. Would that have been while she was ovulating?

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to iclinic.com.

Could you tell her to do a urine pregnancy test tomorrow morning with the first day's urine? She should not take too much quantity of fluid before the test. Further, adhere to all guidelines written on the kit for checking pregnancy.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

Would my girlfriend have ovulated during that time according to her period cycle? Of course, we did not have sexual intercourse, but would it be possible for sperm to pass through my boxers and jeans and pass onto my fingers? I inserted it into the vagina. Is there any chance of pregnancy during that time, especially if she was ovulating? We have decided to go for a pregnancy test kit. Still, a bit in doubt regarding my previous questions.

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to iclinic.com

If there is any remotest or rarest pregnancy chance, it will be detected by a urine pregnancy test since it is almost one month now. She would have, at best, just started with ovulation. Sperms survive barely for a few seconds to five minutes in some rare cases, so generally, sperm can not get ejaculated and cross multiple layers of cloth, then survive on your finger for so long and then enter the vagina and finally fertilize an egg. So I hope you appreciate that it is the rarest of rare possibilities. Please do a urine pregnancy test tomorrow morning, as explained.
