I want to know the accuracy of home pregnancy test?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I took medicine for pregnancy my egg got released on the 14th day confirmed by the doctor by doing a scan. Actually, my period date was two days ago and I still did not get my period. Today morning I checked by using a pregnancy test kit but I got only one line. Is that an accurate result or do I need to wait three to four days more?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It is possible that the pregnancy test result may not be accurate if it was taken too early. While some pregnancy tests can detect pregnancy as early as a few days before a missed period, the accuracy of the test can vary depending on factors such as the sensitivity of the test and the level of the pregnancy hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) in your urine. If you are unsure about the accuracy of the test result or if you are experiencing other symptoms of pregnancy such as nausea, fatigue, or breast tenderness, it may be a good idea to wait a few more days and take another pregnancy test. If you still have not gotten your period and are concerned, it is also a good idea to follow up with your doctor for further evaluation and advice. They may recommend a blood test to measure the level of hCG in your body, which can be more accurate than a urine test.

Thank you.
