Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Hello, I gave my girlfriend an emergency contraceptive pill (Plan B-pill), and she is currently five days late for her period. We had intercourse a month ago, and the condom broke. About 15 to 20 minutes later, I gave her an emergency contraceptive pill. Around four days after that, she experienced something resembling her period, which lasted for a week. Her period for this month was expected a week ago. Additionally, she took two pregnancy tests, both of which turned out negative. My question is, when can we expect her period to arrive? Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to Icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Withdrawal bleeding already occurred after intercourse due to emergency contraceptive pill. The expected period date was a week ago, but it has not happened. All urine pregnancy tests have been negative. If you have not been sexually active since the last withdrawal bleeding, there is no chance of pregnancy. The period delay could be due to hormone disturbance from stress and emergency contraceptive pill. I suggest she take a tablet containing Norethisterone, one tablet twice a day for five days. Periods will likely occur within a few days after stopping Norethisterone.

I hope this helps. For further inquiries, feel free to consult me at icliniq.com.

Thank you.
