Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a fever (100 to 103 F) from the last two days with chills and aches on the knees and hands. I went to a general physician. She prescribed me Mefkind forte and said that if the fever stays for more than a day, I should go for CBC and dengue antigen. But, I have done my CBC and dengue along with the others. I have a doubt with the report. I am sharing with you. Please go through my report.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your dengue test (NS1) is positive, and the platelet count is normal. You also have mild anemia, most likely due to iron deficiency. Your fasting blood sugar is on the higher side. Please continue to drink plenty of water as it is the main treatment for dengue infection. Check the platelet count again after two days to see if the platelet count is decreasing, which is very common in dengue infection. Take rest and drink plenty of fluids.

Hope you recover fast and completely from this infection. Regards.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I do not have rashes and the platelet count is normal and ESR is showing 11. Can dengue be positive if the platelet count is normal? Should I do the test again from another lab?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The platelet count is usually normal in the beginning, and later it starts to decrease. The ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) will be normal in dengue infection. If you would like to repeat the test again, I suggest doing dengue IgM test along with dengue NS1 and the platelet count after two days. Anyway, the main treatment will be to keep yourself well hydrated with water and fruits.

Regards.
