Why do gaps appear between teeth after braces treatment?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Four years ago, I got my teeth straight from a dental clinic using some braces. At the end of the treatment, they asked me to wear some teeth clips so that there would not be any gap formation. But as I have not followed it well there are some gaps in my teeth. So I want to know if there is a natural treatment like using some teeth clips to correct them and how much it will cost.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You should have followed your dentist's advice and used retainers a little longer to avoid the relapse you are going through now. For now, I suggest you make an appointment with the same dentist if possible and ask if the relapse can be managed with the help of removable retainers. Your orthodontist might ask for a full mouth x-ray OPG (orthopantomogram) to compare pre and post-operative teeth movements as well as the relapse in these years, get that done, and most probably removable retainers will do the needful. Take action as soon as possible.

I hope my answer was helpful to you.

Thank you.
