Hello doctor,

I have done a full-body checkup and want suggestions on my report. I have symptoms of diabetes already and have been suffering from it for three years; medications are continuing.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I am deeply concerned about your worries.

Thanks for sharing your details. I can give a structured review and suggestions based on your given information (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity).Since you have had diabetes for three years, your report interpretation will focus on blood sugar, kidney function, lipid profile, and weight management. I will also consider your height and weight. The body mass index is calculated with a height of 5 feet 0 inches (152.4 centimetres) and a weight of 162 pounds (73.5 kilograms). This gives a BMI of approximately 31.7. So a BMI of more than 30 is in the obese range. Obesity raises the chances of getting worse diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. Weight control is a huge thing.Since you have had diabetes for three years, the main focus is on your fasting blood sugar (FBS) and glycated hemoglobin or HbA1c (average blood sugar over three months). The ideal targets (for most adults with diabetes) are an FBS of 80 to 130 mg/dL and an HbA1c below seven percent. However, for diabetes management, I suggest you follow the following:

  • Keep taking your prescribed medications.
  • Eat a healthy diet (low sugar, moderate carbs, high fibre).
  • Regular physical activity (e.g. walking for at least 30 minutes per day).
  • Test blood sugar regularly to identify trends.

Diabetes can affect your kidneys and liver. So I would suggest you verify the following:

  • Serum creatinine and eGFR (estimated glomerular filtration rate) are normal.
  • Urine microalbumin is checked annually to detect early kidney damage.
  • Liver function should also be normal; fatty liver is common in obesity and diabetes.

Diabetes and obesity have a higher risk of heart disease. So, the ideal targets of a lipid profile should be:

  • LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol: less than 100 mg/dL.
  • HDL (high-density lipoprotein): above 50 mg/dL (for women).
  • Triglycerides: <150 mg/dL.

If abnormal, your doctor might change medicines or recommend lifestyle changes. A few lifestyle recommendations that may help you are as follows:

  • Focus on vegetables, whole grains and lean protein, cut back on sweets, refined carbohydrates and fried foods.
  • Daily walks, yoga or light aerobics.
  • Losing even 5% to 10% of your weight improves your blood sugar and heart health.
  • Check FBS, HbA1c, blood pressure, lipids.
  • Regular blood sugar checks every 3-6 months. Kidney and eye exam every year.

If you give me the actual lab report values (FBS, HbA1c, cholesterol, kidney function, liver function), I can give a detailed interpretation and point out exactly what needs attention.

I hope you find this helpful.

Thank you.
