General Physical Examination

A general physical examination is an examination that a physician performs to gather all the possible signs and symptoms to assess the patient's health condition and diagnose any medical condition if present. It starts with history taking, including presenting complaint, duration, symptoms, systemic illness, family history, etc. Then, stethoscope examination of the lung and heart function, percussion, palpation, auscultation, checking the vitals like blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature, lymph node examination, checking for clubbing, edema, body weight, eye examination, etc., all are done in physical examination.
