Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My 3-month-old daughter has had loose motions for one month, and her reports show 12 to 15 pus cells. She is exclusively breastfed, and no formula milk is given. She was admitted for three days in the hospital for loose motion and dehydration. She drinks milk when she is hungry and cries after that. She passes watery stools five times a day. She has been given antibiotics for the past few days, but nothing is effective.
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Loose motions for more than one month must be evaluated properly. It is not a serious issue as she is active, well hydrated, and gaining weight. I suggest the following.
1. Stop all antibiotics and continue breastfeeding.
2. Give her an oral electrolytic solution of 25 to 30 ml after each loose motion.
3. Do stool analysis to identify the causative agent of infection.
You can consult back after doing the stool test.
Thank you.
