Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am concerned about diphtheria outbreaks. Can you provide details about the diphtheria vaccine and its importance in children's immunization schedules? Additionally, what are the common transmission methods of diphtheria, and how can I safeguard my family against this potentially serious infection? Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

We welcome you to the icliniq.com family.

I appreciate the confidence you place in me for your healthcare consultation.

Diphtheria is a serious infection. The Diphtheria vaccine comes in combination with the DPT (diphtheria, pertussis, and tetanus) vaccine. It is one of the basic vaccines given at six weeks,10 weeks, and 14 weeks of life to all babies. And boosters at 18 months and five years of age. It is included in the national immunization schedule also. Transmitted mainly through oral routes, airborne, direct contact, respiratory secretion, skin, etc. Fortunately, DPT vaccines are available and all babies should be given the vaccine which is the most effective way for prevention. Vaccines are given to adolescents at 10 years of age also. Even now pregnant ladies are given the Tdap vaccine for preventing infection in unborn babies.

I hope this information will help you. Please revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.
