Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
My front tooth has discoloration, and the dentist said it is dead.
Can you help me decide what to do to fix this and make it beautiful?
Should I extract it or change it to a crown that I can just afford?
It is not causing me any discomfort, though it stings when I drink hot and cold beverages. I also had previous dental work done on this by filling half of the tooth.
So help me decide.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com
I have read your query and can understand your problem.
Thanks for getting in touch and trusting us with a second opinion on your concern. I want you to know that I am here to help you because I know how much a discolored front tooth can affect your self-esteem.
According to what you have said, the reason your front tooth has discolored is that the nerve has died. The fact that it stings with hot and cold drinks tells me there may still be some sensitivity in the surrounding area, and we definitely want to address that.
Since you have already had a filling on half the tooth, we need to look at how much healthy tooth structure is left to determine the most reliable option.
Here are the possibilities I would like to discuss with you:
Root canal treatment and a crown are usually the gold standard for a dead front tooth. The tooth is cleaned out on the inside, a post is placed for support if needed, and it is covered with a crown that matches your natural teeth beautifully. It saves your original tooth, which is always ideal for bone health and your bite.
Internal bleaching and dental veneer are indicated if there is enough solid tooth left and the discoloration is the main issue; we might be able to lighten the tooth from the inside and add a thin veneer to mask the color. This is often the most budget-friendly option, though it depends on the tooth's condition.
I want to reassure you: you do not have to decide everything today. I would appreciate it if you could send me the clear photos/X-rays so that I can see exactly how much tooth structure remains and whether there's any infection at the root tip. That will tell us which options are truly viable for you.
I am hoping that the above information was helpful for you.
If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me.
Thank you.
