Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My five-year-old son has had a dry cough for the past month. It appears to be caused by dust, as there is no mucus involved. The cough seems to recur when he plays. We have given him cough syrup and Azithromycin tablets. Although his coughing improved temporarily, it has resumed. The doctor has now suggested using Mometasone nasal spray. Could you help identify the type of cough he has and recommend the best treatment? He does not have any breathing difficulties.
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
He may have an allergic cough. I suggest having his absolute eosinophil count and serum IgE (immunoglobulin E) levels checked to confirm an allergy. If an allergy is confirmed, consider giving him Levocetirizine and Montelukast syrup. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her, and take the medicines with their consent.
Thank you.
