Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My skin and hair have become very dry. Someone suggested taking Evion 400 capsules orally daily. Can you please suggest if I can take these capsules? Will they help in getting rid of dryness? Are there any side effects?

Answered by Dr. Meha Malhotra

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Evion (vitamin E) capsules will not help much with the dryness. For the skin, I suggest the following:

  1. Use a gentle soap like Dove or Cetaphil.
  2. Apply Venusia lotion (Aloe Butter, Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Glycerin) twice a day over your body.

For the hair, I suggest you try doing the following:

  1. Use any good conditioner.
  2. If you are using an anti-dandruff shampoo, then stop that.
  3. Also, apply hair serum over wet hair after a wash.

Hope all this helps. Do get your TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) and fasting sugar levels done. As diabetes and thyroid dysfunction can be a cause for dryness. Take care.

Patient's Query

Thanks doctor,

I started using Cetaphil moisturizing bar on my face and started applying Evion 400 capsule oil mixed with Vaseline moisturizer on my face and with coconut oil on my hair. This has greatly reduced the dryness. But doing this whole exercise daily is very difficult as I have a very hectic work schedule. Can you please let me know good supplements which I can eat daily to help me overcome dryness on a permanent basis? Can I use Vitamin E and Omega-3 supplements? What should I eat to clear out any deficiency I might have? I tried the serum you wrote but it dried my hair, even more, hence I stopped using it.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

To be frank, applying Evion capsules (Vitamin E) is not very beneficial. A lotion will help you a lot. Before starting multivitamins I think you should first get routine tests advised to judge if there is any systemic cause for the dryness. I suggest you start taking capsule Absolut 3G (Omega-3) once a day for three months. A vitamin-rich diet will help you like green vegetables and juicy fruits.

Regarding follow up

Follow up after a month.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

The mositurizing cream did help a lot but as winter has started; it is also not helping now. I started then on the other moisturizing cream but after three to four hours dryness is back. Please suggest any natural safe deep moisturizer which is not greasy.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I would wish you to get the above tests. The reason behind this is that you are a young male and this much dryness is not very common in your age. Start using Cetaphil (Water, cetyl alcohol, propylene glycol, sodium lauryl sulfate, stearyl alcohol, methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben) cream twice daily.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I got both the tests done and they came normal. I am attaching the reports too. Also, I wish you to know that dryness is only felt on my face and rest body is totally fine. I am mixing vitamin E capsule with Venusia max now. But it is not enough as dryness comes back.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Good to know that the reports are normal. I suggest you start using Episoft lotion (Purified Water, Cetearyl Alcohol, 1, 3 Butylene Glycol, Maltooligosyl Glucoside/Hydrogenated Starch Hydrolysate, Cetostearyl Alcohol, Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate, Phenova, Acrylic Acid/c10-c30 Alkyl Acrylate Copolymers, Triethanolamine) as a facewash twice daily there will not be much lather in it.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
