Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am feeling a crackling noise in my left ear, occurring at two to three minutes intervals with no discharge. I tried to swallow and blow with a pinched nose and heard air passing in my left ear, but that did not help. Kindly help. Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I think this crackling sound appears whenever you move your jaw. Your temporomandibular joint is a bit unstable. 1. Is there associated pain there?2. Since how many days this problem persists? 3. Any history of cold? 4. Any history of decreased hearing? The other two possible diagnoses could be eustachian tube dysfunction or tinnitus. Kindly revert for further queries. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

It is more like bubbling sounds every five minutes, not that loud, and it has reduced a little bit. The noise feels the same that I used to feel in flight. There is no pain in the temporomandibular joint or any cold or hearing issues. And I traveled on a flight a few days back, not recently. Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

According to the nature of your history, you could be suffering from eustachian tube dysfunction. The eustachian tube connects your nose to the middle ear and ventilates it. The recent flight travel could be the reason for eustachian tube dysfunction. 1. Please take a Xylometazoline hydrochloride 0.1 % nasal drop thrice a day for a week after consulting your doctor. 2. Do Valsalva exercises 10 to 15 times daily. Kindly revert for further queries. Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
