Will taking Unwanted 72 or not ejaculating within the vagina prevent pregnancy?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My partner and I had unprotected intercourse five days ago but had not ejaculated within the vagina. I had an Unwanted 72 tablet within 47 hours of the intercourse. I have been experiencing slight body pain and mild stomach pain sometimes. Is there any risk of pregnancy? Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

If you had taken an emergency contraceptive pill within 72 hours, there would be less chance of getting pregnant. Pregnancy symptoms do not appear this early, but please mention your last menstrual date and when you had intercourse for exact evaluation.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for this reply.

My last menstruation date was the first week of this month, and I had intercourse during the middle of the second week. Is there any risk? I have had problems with irregular periods from the start of my menstruation. What will happen if I miss my period this time? Can I take tablets for periods? Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to iclinq.com.

I can understand your concern.

If your cycle is more than 28 days, then you had intercourse on a safe day, so there will not be any pregnancy. Also, you took a contraceptive pill, and you may get withdrawal bleeding within two to seven days. There is a chance that you may get delayed periods because of the pill. If you miss your periods by two weeks, then only do a urine pregnancy test; if it is negative, you can induce your periods by withdrawal method. Have you not investigated whether you have had irregular periods since the start? Please provide further information on the menstrual cycle. How many days after do you get your period? Do you have issues with acne, increased weight, and facial hair?

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Ejaculation did not happen within the vagina, but I still took the pill. Is there a chance of pregnancy? My menstruation started seven years back, and at that time, I had a problem with heavy bleeding. My blood level was low, and I had to take treatment. After the treatment, my periods were normal, but later I developed irregular periods. I would get periods after one and a half months or two months. Again I consulted the doctor, and they gave me an Ovral L tablet and M2 tone syrup. After these medicines, I got regular periods for some months, and now I am again facing the problem of irregular periods. The last period I had was in the first week of this month, and there were five days of mild bleeding. On the first day, I had proper bleeding, but from the second day, there was so little bleeding. The bleeding lasted for three days. Also, I have problems with acne and facial hair. Is there any risk of taking Unwanted 72 tablets? Are there chances of pregnancy? Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

I already explained there would not be any pregnancy as you had intercourse on a safe day, no semen ejaculation happened, and you took Ipill. So do not worry about the pregnancy. An emergency contraceptive pill like Unwanted 72 (Levonorgestrel) will not be harmful, but if taken unnecessarily two to three times a month, it may disturb your menstrual cycle for the next three to four months. It can only be accepted in emergencies when a condom tears or you missed your monthly contraceptive pill. It should not be taken regularly, and according to your description, there is a chance of having PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome). I would suggest doing a USG pelvis (ultrasound pelvis) scan, thyroid profile, and CBC (complete blood count). Based on the reports, further treatment can be planned.

I hope this will help you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I will take treatment for PCOS problems as well.

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Because of the hormonal pill, the menstrual cycle may get disturbed. As you have got withdrawal bleeding there is more possibility that you will get your period.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

How does that Unwanted 72 tablet work? Can you please tell me what are the reasons for PCOS and what precautions we should take if we have PCOS?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Unwanted 72 is a Progesterone tablet that prevents pregnancy by preventing fertilization and implantation. Also, the stoppage of progesterone causes bleeding, the same phenomenon that occurs during menstruation. If you have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), then first you should regulate your cycle with the help of medicines, and you should do some lifestyle modifications like regular exercise, having more green leafy vegetables and fruits, and avoiding oily and spicy food. Maintain your weight within normal BMI (body mass index).

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

You said I would get periods but today I have not got my periods. Why there is so much delay? When I had an unwanted tablet I bled for five days bleeding was more than my every time period. Was that period bleeding? Still, I do not have any symptoms of pregnancy.

Thanks.

Hello,

I understand your concern.

I mentioned to you earlier, that because of the pills you took the menstrual cycle may get disturbed.

I hope this information will help you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

But is it okay if it gets distributed for a long time? Is there any risk of pregnancy? When we took treatment for periods a few months ago. But in this case that did not work. I just wanted to know what is the reason or why it is taking so much time to come periods. Is there any risk that sperms are not passed?

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

There is no risk of pregnancy. But for safety, you can do a urine pregnancy test with a morning sample. The withdrawal bleeding you got should be considered as your menstrual date and your periods should come around that only. Normally one-week fluctuation may occur. Also, you took this in the wrong dose, it may even delay your periods.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
