Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I was on the ninth day after my first period bleeding. I had intercourse with my partner for three consecutive days. He ejaculated outside my vagina and I took a pill a day later. What are the chances of pregnancy?
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern,
Emergency contraceptive pills are hormone-based and act at three different stages to prevent unplanned pregnancy. Firstly, the drug prevents the release of an egg from the ovaries. Secondly, if the egg was already released before the dose of the pill, it prevents the fertilization of the egg by thickening of fluids inside your body in the cervix. Thirdly, if fertilization has also taken place, it prevents the implantation of a fertilized egg.
Ideally, it should be taken at the earliest after unprotected intercourse for best efficacy. As far as ejaculation outside is concerned, that is fine but the precum also contains adequate sperm content to cause pregnancy. As you were nearing ovulation, you may not be ovulating as you said it was the ninth day from bleeding. Based upon the above information, the chances of pregnancy are low but I won't say none at all.
I will request you to please share your cycle length and menstrual history with me for better assessment and to enable me to help you better but with whatever information you have shared already, I will say that chances of pregnancy are low. Regards.
