Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 15-year-old child experiences seizures on and off. He has been having seizures and I am too worried about it. I am in need of guidance on how to handle this situation. Can you provide information on the types of seizures, their potential causes, and any warning signs? Is there any medicine available to control or manage seizures in children? What safety measures can I take to ensure my child's well-being during a seizure episode? Are there specific triggers to be aware of, and when should I seek immediate medical assistance? I am deeply concerned about my child's suffering.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. When seizure attacks occur two times or more, without any clear trigger (such as fever, serious medical conditions, or taking some drugs), it is called epilepsy. Everyone with epilepsy needs to take anti-epileptic drugs. Therefore, your child needs to be visited by a pediatrician or a pediatric neurologist, as soon as possible, to be investigated properly and be prescribed appropriate medication.

Till that time, he should avoid any activity on height, swimming, bicycling, or riding any vehicle.

If an attack occurs, stay calm and remain with your son. Keep him safe and protect him from injury. Place something soft under his head and loosen any tight clothing. Do not put your hand or anything in his mouth. Roll him onto his side immediately.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Regards.
