Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 61-year-old male. My height is 5 feet 6 inches, and my weight is 187 pounds. I suffer from diabetes, and I have been using insulin for 10 years now. My blood sugar levels are under control.
But recently, I have been having problems with erectile dysfunction. Can you please suggest something that will help me with my problem? Your suggestions will be very much appreciated.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understood your concern.
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a frequent complication in diabetic patients with a long duration of the disease, even if diabetes is controlled.
Erectile dysfunction can result from diabetes damage to the blood vessels and nerves, which are necessary for proper erection. An excessive body mass index (BMI) of 187 pounds can also contribute to erectile dysfunction. But fortunately, erectile dysfunction can be managed effectively, and many men have been successfully treated.
First, reversible causes of erectile dysfunction should be determined. You need to get tested for glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), renal function test, lipids, total testosterone in the morning, thyroid function tests (TFTs), and serum prolactin if these tests have not been performed recently.
Good control of diabetes, regular physical exercise, weight loss, sufficient sleep, and abstinence from smoking and alcohol are the means to manage erectile dysfunction.
You can use a Tadalafil 5 mg tablet once every day in the evening after food for 15 days and see the effect. Then, depending on the results, we can proceed with further management of your condition.
Let me know the following as it helps guide uou better:
Do you have any erections, or do you lack them completely?
Do you have morning erections?
Do you use any drugs for your heart problems?
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
The erection is completely absent. In the morning, there is slight enlargement, but it is not firm or stiff enough. I am not taking any medication for heart disease, as I have never had any heart-related problems.
Kindly help.
